The other day I read in a newspaper an article presenting a book -
"Surface" of
Nicholas Carr - which states that
Internet is changing our brains
, what is shaping significantly (we knew of the high plasticity of our gray matter.) Apparently, surf the web is to the detriment of our
ability to concentrate, impaired memory ostensibly
and weakens the capacity for abstraction and deep thought (also
stressed enough and affects our
view, I might add). In short, we become a little more
surface (if not a little stupid
, which is what really creeps).
I do not know to what extent is this true, but I guess a point is. In the same way the appearance of your Mobile made automatically, never again we returned to memorize a phone number, Internet
is doing the same through some famous search engine, every time delegate more in this kind of tools (if laziness overcomes us to memorize it) , not knowing what changes may occur in the long run (that is universal law that everything that is not used tend to atrophy to loss ...). Moreover, the visual overstimulation
we are subject as we sit in front of a screen, looking here and there without rhyme or reason, not focusing on anything and everything superficial reading, does that now, and usually ─ ─ according to the report, it costs us a lot more effort to follow the linear thread
reading a book without losing concentration
or retentive. Our way of reading is being altered. Not to mention the new
addiction that are emerging as this urge to read the mail
every now, or constantly watch the last update of the friends in the network
on duty, or in
posts , without going any further.
Apparently, the only thing better is the visual processing
and decision making
, although I say that speed is useless in making decisions if they err constantly. Faced with the speed I would give more importance to the success rate but, obviously, the ideal is the situation of compromise, balance, and
Internet is enhancing that speed only in so far as we stressed, it seems to me.
Finally, as always happened with the appearance of any new technology
, I think the good or evil can make us depend heavily on
use or abuse
we can do it, so that nothing new under the stars, folks. However, controversy seems served. I, just in case, I still have my temporary disconnections ... ;-)
